Venice

Ah, Venice.  Awesome to have seen it, no need to return.  It's one of those sort of places.  Stunningly beautiful, but packed to the gills with tourists.  I'm glad all these students got to go here at a young age so that they never need to go back again.  Hahaha.

We took a boat from our hotel over to Venice. When I first went to Venice, I thought it would be like Amsterdam, where there's a handful of canals, but you can still drive everywhere.  It's not. It's all canals.  You can't drive a bus or a car anywhere in the city.

We started off with a glass-blowing demonstration.  This is sort of a big thing in Venice, and it was probably my least favorite part of the whole trip.

This guy made a horse.

Neat and all, but it was one of those things where you're given 20 minutes to wander the gift shop afterwards with "20% special discount for you today!"  The finished product is, in my opinion, absolutely hideous, but to each his own.

Once we left the glass-blowing place, we took another boat to St. Mark's Square.  There is something really cool about entering the Grand Canal for the first time, seeing the boats, the buildings, and the the people. We took a guided tour of the city, then wandered around on our own.  As touristy as Venice is, I do have to say, it is one of the most beautiful cities in Europe.

One really cool experience was getting to take a canal ride through the city.  Definitely a must-do for the European traveler.
